CONSOLIDATION CHARACTERISTICS OF LATERITIC SOIL TREATED WITH RICE HUSK ASH

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lateritic soil was treated with 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16% rice husk ash (RHA) by dry weight of to determine its consolidation properties. Test carried out include; particle size distribution, specific gravity, compaction test varying compactive efforts (British Standard Light (BSL), West African (WAS) as well British Heavy (BSH)) test. Samples for were compacted then cured 7, 28 56 days; subjected one dimensional testing observe the influence curing period effort on characteristics. Index tests showed improved geotechnical The maximum density (MDD) BSL decreased a rise in RHA content from 1.72 1.42 Mg/m3 while optimum moisture (OMC) increased 16.5 27.3% doses 0 up 16%. Similar trend observed WAS BSH energies. Pre-consolidation pressure increment also increase both few exceptions. At 12% content, 65 66.5kN/m2 at 7 days respectively. Increase caused decrease Compression (Cc) Swelling (Cs). period. There no Swell As increased, swell index decreased. reduced Coefficient Volume Compressibility (Mv) Consolidation (Cc). Curing have effect Mv Cc. Based results obtained, atleast using energy level properties can be use engineering applications like embankment or rural roads.

Permeability of Lateritic Soil Treated with Lime and Rice Husk Ash

A-7-6 lateritic soil was treated at British Standard Light (BSL) compaction energy with up to 8% lime content (by dry weight of the soil) at 2% variations and each was admixed with up to 8% rice husk ash (RHA) at 2% variations. Effects of the ash on the soil-lime mixtures were investigated with respect to unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and coefficient of permeability. The UCS of the spec...

Soil Stabilization using Rice Husk Ash and Cement

Soil stabilization has become a major issue in construction engineering and the researches regarding the effectiveness of using industrial wastes are rapidly increasing. The present experimental work briefly describes the suitability of the locally available Rice Husk Ash (RHA) to be used in the local construction industry in a way to minimize the amount of waste to be disposed to the environme...

Marine Durability Characteristics of Rice Husk Ash-Modified Reinforced Concrete

This paper addresses the potential use of Rice Husk Ash (RHA) as a cementitious material in concrete mixes. RHA is produced from the burning of rice husk which is a byproduct of rice milling. The ash content is about 18-22% by weight of the rice husks. Research has shown that concrete made with RHA as a partial cement substitute to levels of 10% to 20% by weight of cement has superior performan...
